Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to embark on their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their position as important members in the powerful family could assist the team enter areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the family.
This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
