'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith resumes clash with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he recalls the thrilling closing stages of Swansea's epic comeback victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter wrapped up with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses following the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative effort from 25 yards, and the defender immediately converted the deflection before charging toward the East Stand to mark the goal, with the crowd mobbing the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

This completed an unbelievable recovery given the team had been behind 2-0 midway through the final 45 minutes. During the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and we were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're humans, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

That win secured a fourth-round fixture at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the same stage of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. He had a prime vantage point when the underdogs took the lead in stunning style, with the attacker's first-time shot from about 45 yards going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that range," stated Galbraith, who played in the middle before shifting to right flank after Orient changed shape. That meant competing with Jack Grealish, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way his former team played positively.

City's Quality

"Fitness-wise they are very good but even the basics and routine actions, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they always find their target and they know how to manage and neutralize a game. You can believe you're all right and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be alert every second of the game. It takes a tough attitude and concentration just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at Orient and has swiftly replicated that in Wales. At the London club he joined forces once more with the coach, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in professional games on loan at his loan club from Old Trafford. Then came a temporary move at lower division Salford, before he departed Old Trafford.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a slightly green going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it feels like possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There's not many physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that growth for both domestically and internationally, excelling for the Green and White Army, who could still reach the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including both legs encounters against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his knack for a decisive through ball.

Starting Out

This represents an incredible journey for the player from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his father, Stuart, also a central player, play for a local club.

Red Devils Debut

The player's only game for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they played on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was sealed owing to conditions of -15C. "It was a long trip and it was chilly," he says, chuckling. "The days leading up, several youth players and I practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Moving On

How hard was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I knew I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the experience gained but it became apparent where I thought I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play first-team games. Now I'm gradually working my way back up."

Life in Swansea

It is mid-afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has an appointment at 5pm: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's so-called fun bus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to interact with the teammates but I'm planning to be the next one to stop using the bus and behind the wheel. His teammate enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Public Engagement

While playing for his former club, Galbraith would blend in with supporters on public transport after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
